Two famous footpaths, The Two Moors Way and the Mariners Way pass very close by offering easy access to the breath-taking moorland which of course offers amazing walking, stunning scenery, peace, quiet and tranquillity.
With no light pollution, the skies at night are truly beautiful; by day you will be able to hear the neighbouring farm’s cattle, sheep and guinea-fowl!
Lower Hookner Barn, though rural, is very easily accessible with the scenic village of North Bovey and Bovey Castle, just a mile away. Chagford and Moretonhampstead are within ten minutes each and offer lots of shopping and eateries. If you want some city-time, then Exeter and Plymouth are within an hour’s drive.
Guests to our Bed and Breakfast have a cosy and welcoming bedroom with either Twin or Super-King Double Bed (please advise when booking which you need).
In your rooms are tea and coffee facilities, hair dryer, shampoo, shower gel, soaps and towels.
The bathroom has a toilet, sink and power shower and heated radiators for lovely warm towels! Guests also have sole use of a delightful living / dining room complete with SKY TV, DVD player and log burner (basket of logs provided each day free in October to March), and extremely comfortable arm chairs. Juliet and Ian own the barn, and will be delighted to advise on places to visit, and local walks etc.
Animals are an important feature of our barn and are very much part of our family! When here, we would be delighted to introduce you to our horses and dogs (there’s no obligation however!).
We have our lovely bantams who are free range in the garden and will often join you for an afternoon cup of tea. We also have our hens who contribute to your experience here by producing the eggs that are served at breakfast!
We are situated next to a working farm, so you will also get to enjoy the herd of South Devon cattle and the sheep.
What a lovely place to rest and recuperate after a day’s walking. Everything you need is here. Delightful hosts, we were well looked after. Thank you
Delicious breakfast. Juliet was an excellent and friendly host and we will definitely come again.
My lovely room was a tranquil haven in a dear, tiny hamlet Hookner heaven. Thank you for having me.
